Life has gotten to be a bit much for me lately. One week ago today, mom fell and broke her ankle at work. I haven’t slept much since. Luckily, workman’s comp. paid for an actual orthopedic surgeon to take a look at her. Thursday she went in for surgery; she has four screws and a plate in her right ankle.
There are now three non working adults in my house. Fortunately, mom’s still getting a check (though greatly reduced) and her second husband still receives his monthly government check. If only I were so lucky. Still unemployed. Still looking. Still nothing.
With mom out of commission and her second husband about as helpless as a toddler, I’m the one left with all the responsibility. Cooking, cleaning, finances, making sure she takes her meds, etc., it all falls on me. And frankly, I’m tired. I’ve just about made my mind up that when she gets through this, I’m gone. Goodbye Georgia, Hello Canadia! But of course that can only happen with money, so in the end I may still be stuck.
First, Supernatural 4.18 The Monster at the end of this book, was just about the best hour of television I’ve ever watched. In. My. Entire. Life. It was made of so much win. The fact that Kripe actually has Sam and Dean have a conversation about slash, with them at the main characters…Oh My God!
Second, Dollhouse, I cannot describe my love for all things Joss. I will admit that given his history with FOX, I was a bit reluctant to watch it. Firefly anyone? But damn. This show proves to me just how talented Eliza really is, and what a warped and twisted mind Joss really has. And I must admit, after last night’s episode, I’m a bit afraid to actually venture back into my attic.
Third, WCG Ultimate Gamer, a reality show on Scifi, is just, hilarious. And this is really odd coming from me, an avid hater of all things reality television wise. But seriously, a group of gamers in one house, fighting for the title of Ultimate Gamer, money and the chance to be the face of the WCG. I must say though I will hurt someone if Jamal wins. There’s no other way to put it, but I hate that fucking prick.
And now, fandom wank from the Sims Community!
Not many people know that I’m a Sims 2 addict. Well maybe addict isn’t quite the right word. I go through periods where I play the game almost 24/7 to not playing at all. Right now I’m in an off phase, but not out of choice. (There’s no space on my pc for the game and custom content, the crappy computer has an equally crappy video card, laptop’s dead, etc.) Anyway, I’ve pretty much always been a lurker at the various forums and keep abreast of any dramaz or lulz that are going on.
Many years ago, I ran across TSR when I was playing the Sims 1. It seemed like a cool site, at the time. It has since evolved into this huge ball of ooze seeping with pus. Of course it boasts to be the largest ‘fansite’ dedicated to the Sims, but at the same time claims to be a business. Last time I checked you couldn’t really be a business if you were a fansite, but potato patato. Anyway, the site steals money from the average user by claiming subscription fees to download content. (not all content is paid, some is free). The quality of the content is not worth paying for, especially since there are many talented free artists out on the net.
The thing is though, this site shouldn’t even be charging for downloads to begin with. The EULA for the Sims 2 BodyShop pretty much states that once in the .package file, the content belongs to EA/Maxis. Thus you aren’t allowed to sell it.
Now the kicker, TSR has targeted many in the Sims community that it (read: Thomas – the owner) feels threatened by or simply does not like. The Reflex Sims forum is an example of a site it had “taken down” and Buggysboo, a free creator whose mesh and textures were stolen by a Featured Artist at TSR. Oh and let’s not forget the famous Coconut. They’ve had the Coconut blog shut down at a number of hosts simply because Coconut airs all of TSR’s dirty little secrets.
